Farewell Party at the Champagne and Wine Festival in Budafok
The XXII. district of Budapest, Budafok-Tétény, says goodbye to the summer with champagne and wine on the 5th and 6th of September, just like every year. The visitors can try a wide variety of the aforementioned beverages and different types of streetfood as well. What makes this year’s festival special is that the art section has widened with the exhibition of artist from the district who work in the fields of fine arts.
The festival represents millenary traditions. Many-many years ago, with the extraction of stone it became obvious that it would be perfect to store wine in the cellars. Thanks to the practised keepers of Jenő Savoyai’s property, the culture of grapes and wine production started to flourish in the XVIII. century. Budafok became the centre of Hungary’s wine trade in the XIX. century. The legendary figure of champagne production, József Törley, also started his factory there. This is such an inheritance for the descendants that not many regions have.
The event is going to start with the procession of the Order of Hungarian Wineries. According to szeretlekmagyarország.hu some of the attending wineries and producers are the Törley, Sümegi families and many others from historical ones to newer, revolutionary ones. Furthermore, this year different champagnes also play a big role in the festival. Nowadays, outstanding champagne creations are also made in our country beside the great wine selection. This is what the organizers try to emphasize by inviting champagne manufacturers.
Along the culinary pleasures, concerts and family programmes will be held during the weekend. Visitors can listen to different genres of music on three stages. In the Wine Garden typical festival bands like Kelemen Kabátban, Ocho Macho will perform. At the Champagne Square you can meet pop musicians like Dénes Pál, The Biebers, Veca Janicsák. And lastly, in Promontor Garden jazz and blues concerts will be held.
Parents can also bring their kids to the event since there will be a playground, family park and different programmes, concerts for children.
The festival is free to enter, but if you want to try some of the drinks you have to by a sample cup, which costs 600 Ft.
