Holiday house at Lake Balaton for 50 euros! What’s the trick?
A lottery was held to win a holiday home on Lake Balaton for HUF 20,000 (EUR 50). The new owner is happy, but many say it is a scam. But what is the trick?
ZsĂ³ka Katona advertised her property for several months, but there was no potential buyer. She decided to draw lots for the property. Those who bought an e-book worth 20,000 forints (around EUR 52), were entered into the draw.
In total, she sold 6,000 books, which meant a revenue of HUF 120 million (EUR 300,000), reports ripost. The property on Lake Balaton was worth roughly HUF 90 million (EUR 232,000 ). Fifteen percent of the total proceeds went to various taxes, as well as paying the winner’s tax instead of the winner, and legal and marketing fees, but it still generated a substantial income.
The idea did not come from ZsĂ³ka Katona, but from her husband’s head, which is not new abroad. ZsĂ³ka Katona stressed to the newspaper that this is not a real estate raffle or a game of chance, it is a product promotion.
According to napi.hu, there is a lot of outrage, as the participants found out that there was a mortgage on the holiday home after the draw had already taken place.
