National Oncology Institute director to lead human resources ministry

Miklós Kásler, director of the National Oncology Institute, is to take over from Zoltán Balog as human resources minister in the new government, while Fidesz parliamentary group leader Gergely Gulyás is to head the prime minister’s office, daily Magyar Idők said on Friday, citing government sources.

The outgoing mayor of Budapest’s 8th district, Máté Kocsis, will head the senior ruling party’s parliamentary group, the paper said.

The government shake-up after the April 8 general election will see the appointment of Tibor Benkő, the chief of the general staff of the armed forces, as defense minister, the paper said.

László Palkovics, formerly the state secretary for higher education, will head a new ministry for higher education and innovation, while Andrea Bártfai-Mager will be at the helm of the ministry of development. State secretary István Nagy is to take over the farm ministry from Sándor Fazekas, the paper cited weekly Figyelő as saying.

Lajos Kósa, the current minister without portfolio responsible for the development of cities, is to leave the government and head Fidesz’s campaign in the 2019 local elections.

The ministers keeping their posts in the new government will be Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén, Interior Minister Sándor Pintér, Cabinet Chief Antal Rogán, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, Economy Minister Mihály Varga, Justice Minister László Trócsányi and János Süli, the minister without a portfolio responsible for the upgrade of the Paks nuclear plant.
