Kósa steps down from ministerial post
Lajos Kósa, the minister without portfolio responsible for the development of cities of county rank, has said he would not continue his work as a minister but head ruling Fidesz’s local council election campaign next year.
Kósa told news portal Origo in an interview published on Wednesday evening that as a minister he was in charge of the government’s Modern Cities scheme and that work has been completed. On Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s proposal, the Fidesz board approved on Wednesday that he would head the party’s national campaign for the 2019 local council election.
“This task is politically incompatible with being a government member, therefore I cannot remain a minister,” he said.
The Fidesz campaign for the European parliamentary election next year will be headed by MEP András Gyürk, he added.
Kósa said that at the recent general election, Fidesz received most of the votes on the list and also in individual constituencies not only around Hungary but also in Budapest.
“It would be a mistake on the part of the opposition to think that they have already won the capital,” he added.
