Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship scheme for international students attracts high interest
The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship scheme for international students attracted more than 28,000 applications for the 5,318 places available in the 2018-19 academic year, the human resources ministry said on Wednesday.
The scheme introduced in 2013 enabled 68 students to study in Hungary in the first year. From 2018-19 nearly 9,000 will be studying with the help of Stipendium Hungaricum.
In September this year, some 4,157 new recipients arrived from 65 countries, the ministry said.
Hungary first offered scholarships to students from Bangladesh, Cuba, Kuwait, Montenegro, Singapore, Sudan, Tanzania, Thailand and Cape Verde in the 2017-18 academic year and a total of 295 students arrived from these nine countries.
They were welcomed at a ceremony organised by the Tempus Public Foundation on Wednesday, the ministry added.
