Czech captain of fatal cruise ship collision on Danube at Verőce under police surveillance
The captain of a cruise ship, a Czech national, has been ordered to stay at his place of residence in Hungary until 22 September over charges of alleged negligence in a fatal accident on the Danube river that claimed two lives over the weekend, a Budapest regional court said on Wednesday.
Fatal cruise ship collision
The captain was taken into custody on Monday after his ship collided with a small motor boat near Veroce, north of Budapest, in the night of 18 May. A man and a woman out of the eight passengers on board the boat died while another male passenger who swam ashore survived the accident. A search is still underway for the remaining five passengers, three men and two women.
Police have launched proceedings against the cruise ship’s captain over negligence leading to several deaths and other crimes.
The Czech national has a place of residence registered in Hungary.

Interesting, and the small boat’s responsibilities?
According to HVG the Czech Captain is alleged to have ‘not rendered assistance’ after the incident, not ‘negligence’ for the incident which suggests blame or cause? Big difference in meaning, more info from HVG about the small boat and occupants…..
