Demonstrators end Chain Bridge block
Budapest, March 18 (MTI) – A group of demonstrators blocking Budapest’s Chain Bridge with cars ended their protest on Wednesday evening.
Organiser Zoltan Buki, head of the Civil Society for a Democratic Hungary, said at the site that the demo had been aimed at “restoring rule of law” and the independence of the Constitutional Court. The protesters demand that the ruling parties withdraw “party soldiers” from the top court, Buki said, and pledged “a lot more” similar events in the next few months.
On Tuesday, civil rights organisations presented a study authors of which concluded that the Constitutional Court, with its judges elected with a government majority and without consulting the opposition, had now become a body “loyal to the government”.
