Miss Universe Hungary cloth scandal: this is what the designer said
The two dresses worth EUR 1500 did not make it to the ceremony on time, so Miss Universe Hungary stepped on stage in a Zara dress she ordered online.
The Miss Universe 2021 ceremony was held in Eilat, southern Israel, where the dress designer could not arrive on time due to organisational difficulties and epidemiological regulations. The two dresses worth EUR 1500 also missed the ceremony. The designer was unhappy to hear that many people started criticizing him. He feels, at least they could have asked him for the reason why the clothes were missing.
The designer claims he tried his best
“I was very sad when I had heard on the radio that basically I was the one to blame. It hurts me because we certainly did our best. We put our hearts and souls into this project, and it is depressing to see how it ended. No one from the media called me to ask what the exact situation was. The show happened on the evening of the 10th. Unfortunately, I got my permission to enter the country at one o’clock on the same afternoon. It is three and a half hours by plane to Tel Aviv and about five hours by car to Eilat, so it would have been physically impossible for me to get there with the clothes on time,” – explained the designer Alexander Richárd to Blikk.
He also added that, during the entire week preceding the event, he would have been ready to hop on the plane to Israel at any moment.
The parents do not blame the designer
Last week, Telex contacted both Viktor Jázmin (the current Miss Universe Hungary) and Gábor Panyik, the legal owner of Miss Universe Hungary. The newspaper asked a few questions about the scandal. They promised a recall but it did not take place. However, on Sunday, Jázmin’s parents contacted the media. They wanted to make a statement because the organisers and right holders had not yet done so. They felt it was time to clarify some issues. The parents claimed that the original uniforms did not reach their daughter in time due to the epidemiological restrictions.
According to Blikk, it was also revealed that not only the official dress made by Alexander Richárd but also Jázmin’s sponsorship clothes were sent out on time. So the fashion designer eventually made two dresses worth EUR 1500.
According to Richárd, it is not such a tragedy that the Hungarian beauty walked the runway in a Zara dress.
“Everyone in the fashion industry wears clothes from Zara for photography sessions”.
