Drinks with a view: these are the best rooftop bars in Budapest
Live music, unique cocktails, and great food – these rooftop bars will give you an extraordinary experience while you enjoy the beautiful views from the highest points of central Budapest.
Everyone who has visited Budapest knows how beautiful panoramas the city has to offer. Luckily, there are more and more rooftop bars to help you take advantage of the city’s great geographical position – here is a selection (based on the picks by Travelo) of places where buildings and sunsets will look even more spectacular. Booking tables is highly recommended!
360 Bar
When it comes to panoramic views, 360 Bar does live up to its name. This laid-back rooftop bar in Andrássy Avenue is probably the most famous venue of its kind in Budapest, and not without reason: apart from the views, the place regularly experiments with new drinks and food, and music is provided by different DJs and musicians every night – in case those famous daytime parties were not enough.
Address: Andrássy út 39, 1061
High Note Skybar
High Note Skybar on top of Aria Hotel Budapest was among the first rooftop bars in the city. The place primarily specialises in cocktails, but a staff of seven bartenders will make sure you get the drink you need to enjoy the beautiful view – from a comfortable armchair – on the neighbouring Saint Stephen’s Basilica. The place also has a fine selection of food and desserts, and has even been praised by Condé Nast Traveller.
Address: Hercegprímás utca 5, 1051
Liz and Chain Sky Lounge
The youngest sister of High Note, Liz and Chain Sky Lounge opened only recently, on 16 July on top of the Budapest Marriott Hotel, taking the name of the hotel’s bar in the lobby. Marriott has an excellent riverside location, so it goes without saying that this rooftop bar offers breathtaking views on several famous landmarks of the city, from Gellért Hill and Buda Castle to the Parliament on the Pest side.
Address: Apáczai Csere János u. 4, 1052
St. Andrea Wine & Skybar
What makes St. Andrea stand out is the regular live jazz concerts and its extensive wine selection. Located on top of a UNESCO World Heritage building in the heart of Budapest, the venue also has a heated area where visitors can enjoy the views all year round.
Address: Váci utca 1. Office Building Rooftop, 1052
The Sky Garden Rooftop Terrace
The rooftop bar of the recently opened Mystery Hotel mostly attracts visitors for their themed food and drink selection. Tapas plates are a regular here, and so is Maxim Kuznetsov, a Russian DJ who plays here every night between 7 and 10 p.m.
Address: Podmaniczky utca 45, 1064
Intermezzo Restaurant & Roof Terrace
The rooftop bar of Hotel President offers classic and unique cocktails and has an impressive selection of food from salads to hamburgers and other hearty dishes. Besides, the place throws a live DJ show every second Sunday until 31 August this year.
Address: Hold utca 3-5, 1054
Memorise Skybar
For a slightly different view on the city, visit the rooftop bar of Hotel Memories OldTown: for its location at Kálvin Square, you will get a whole different angle on the rooftops of central Pest, and the place also has excellent views on the Citadel. If healthy food and/or champagne is a priority for you, this is the place to go!
Address: Bástya utca 33, 1056
Toprum
Located on top of Hotel Rum, Toprum is another place with beautiful views on Gellért Hill, but is maybe even more sought after for its great tapas selection and the brunch service. Similarly to St. Andrea, the place too has a heated area to accommodate guests all year round.
Address: Királyi Pál utca 4, 1053
Budapest Rooftop Cinema
There is a lot more to Buda’s first rooftop bar than the lovely views: the place also operates as a cinema and exhibition venue, in addition to having the obligatory cocktail and beer selection, and a food menu with finely selected items. For its location on top of Mammut shopping centre, this place is just as well-connected as the rooftop bars of the Pest side.
Address: Lövőház utca 2-4, 1024
