Almost an EP political group: Ukraine supporter Dutch party joins Orbán’s European political alliance
Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán’s European political alliance keeps on growing: the Netherlands’s Freedom Party (PVV) will join the emerging European parliamentary group of the newly formed Patriots for Europe, PVV leader Geert Wilders said on platform X on Friday.
Orbán’s Patriots for Europe keeps on growing
“We are PVV-patriots, we love our nation. Strong and sovereign,” Wilders said in his post.
PVV fights against illegal immigration and defends peace and freedom, he said, adding that his party supported Ukraine.
“We protect our Judeo-Christian heritage. And our families,” he said.
“We want to combine forces in the EP and will proudly join Patriots for Europe,” Wilders said.

Patriots for Europe: the political alliance
The members of the Patriots for Europe group are so far the following:
- Fidesz (Hungary, founding member)
- Austrian Freedom Party (Austria, founding member)
- ANO (Czech Republic, founding member)
- Chega (Portugal, indicated to join)
- VOX (Spain, indicated to join)
- PVV (The Netherlands, indicated to join)
To form a political group in the European Parliament, you must have at least 23 members from at least 7 countries. Currently (6 July 2024), at least one other country is still missing for Patriots for Europe to meet the minimum requirement.
