Election office to enhance security in preparation to parliamentary elections
The national election office (NVI) has already run several tests on its IT system and security will be further enhanced by requiring electronic identification for staff to access the system, the head of the national election office said on Thursday.
The election results will still be calculated on the basis of paper documentation but the information system will be there to support it, Ilona Pálffy told a press conference.
Voters with a permanent address in Hungary, currently totalling 7,946,127, will be receiving notifications starting on Feb. 9. The number of voters with no permanent address in Hungary is 319,152, so the total number of voters is 8,265,279, she added.
Members of national minorities who wish to vote for candidates on their minority list instead of the national party lists will be expected to register by March 23.
The election campaign will start on Feb. 17 and the application deadline for voting at Hungary’s foreign representative offices, currently totalling 115, will be March 31, she said.
Those who want to vote in Hungary in a different location from their place of residence will have until 4pm on April 6 to notify the authority, she added.
