Employees seek to recover strike rights
Budapest, April 3 (MTI) – The employee side of the permanent consultation forum between the private sector and the government (VKF) has proposed an amendment to the strike law, which would restore the rights of employees to go on strike, the daily Magyar Nemzet reported on Friday.
Imre Palkovics, head of the Workers’ Councils, told the paper that both employers and the government were reluctant to change the law, and called it an achievement that the matter had been put on the agenda at all.
Palkovics suggested that unless a compromise is reached within the forum concerning a bill to be submitted to parliament this spring, trade unions will consider an appeal to international legal forums.
