Outrage erupts as Hungarian minister Lázár crosses the line with offensive remarks: ‘aberrant, liberal kids, bootlicker’

Change language:

No Hungarian politician has ever stooped to such a disgraceful tone in public discourse. The scandal surrounding Minister of Transport János Lázár escalated when he referred to critics of the HÉV suburban railway service as “aberrant, downtown liberal kids” and used vulgar language, calling someone a “bootlicker” (“seggnyaló” in Hungarian, which is more of an equivalent of the vulgar term “c*cksucker”).

Disgraceful tone by János Lázár

In a Facebook post responding to news about proposed cuts to HÉV services, Lázár launched a tirade: “It seems that a few aberrant, downtown liberal kids had one too many over the weekend and are now hallucinating about the HÉV and the world in general. Of course, they’re lying as well”, Telex reports.

He emphasised that neither the Ministry of Construction and Transport nor the leadership of MÁV (the state railway company) had made any decisions regarding the HÉV’s operation or schedule. He denounced all other claims as outright lies.

However, according to reports by HVG, on which Daily News Hungary also reported this morning, MÁV-HÉV Plc. is indeed planning to reduce services on several lines, as was the case last year. The CEO of MÁV recently expressed regret that the HÉV had become entangled in political debates concerning the city’s assembly. He admitted there was a shortage of vehicles but confirmed that no final decision had been made yet.

Budapest Mayor Karácsony and Vitézy’s reactions to HÉV cuts

Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony also condemned the proposed cuts, criticising the state’s approach of forcing Budapest to choose which communities’ transportation needs would be sacrificed. He blamed the state’s failure to fulfil its duties and described the proposal as unacceptable.

  1. The HEV trains are made up of dilapidated East German carriages which are a functioning museum if you are nostalgic for the days of Russian imposed communism compared to the present of Russian allied facsism.

  2. It makes sense. Thanks to Fidesz, the Hungarian economy is going so well that most Hungarians go around in new Mercedes cars, hence there is no need for communist public transport

  3. Fact Check: Harris Supposedly Once Called Young Adults ‘Stupid’ in a Speech. Nothing is new. It is good to hear the truth.

  4. Mariavontheresa, what has Harris got to do with Hungary and HEV, anything to try deflect from govt. that is making alleged EU and Anglo allies question the loyalty of Hungary, when allied with Russia & China, while as Magyar points emigration of youth and working age? Well done…..

This HEV issue seems like an opportunity for Fidesz and state media to try divide Budapest citizens? ‘Divide the electorate & multiply the vote’?

  5. Telling the truth is not a sin. The Hungarian Minister only voiced his opinion, and he has every right to use appropriate words. The example attached is to demonstrate to all horrified readers, that other politicians also tell the truth, and this is allowed in countries that value free speech.

  6. MariavonT, so does everybody in a liberal democracy, not just the PM, while Hungarian self described middle class ‘elites’ passively accept, or emigrate?

  7. Offense lies in the ears of the beholder. The left has a right to be offended and politicians have a right of free speech in Hungary.
How many times have the leftist media and their politicians called Orban’s government Nazis and other vile names without shocked responses from the left?
    Stop this damned hypocrisy now!

  8. According to some Hungarian friends, words used were not really that bad. The word deviant or aberrant is actually appropriate for brainwashed liberal kids. Only the parents should be blamed for raising children that will accept socialism the real name for EU liberalism. Hope the children will smarten up before they reach voting age.
