HUNGEXPO – Hungary’s largest exhibition complex to be renovated for EUR 164 million
By 2021, EUR 164 million will be devoted to the renovation of Hungexpo, including the modernisation of existing pavilions, the construction of two new exhibition halls, a new reception building, and a congress centre.
As pestbuda.hu reports, the foundation stone has been laid by Alexandra Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Deputy Mayor; Gábor Ganczer, CEO of Hungexpo; and Balázs Denhoffer, Managing Director of Expo Park Ltd.
Alexandra Szalay-Bobrovniczky emphasised that the capital’s leadership gives priority to infrastructural, touristic, cultural, and sports-related real estate developments in Budapest and largely supports all investments which contribute to the dynamic development of the Hungarian capital.
“Since its establishment 50 years ago, it is one of the most important days in the life of our company,” said Gábor Ganczer, CEO of Hungexpo. This appropriate venue enables Budapest to benefit from one of the most important and most profitable branches of quality tourism – business tourism that could only be realised within limits in the past.
Thanks to current development, Budapest can get the opportunity to host any size of international congresses and conferences, added the CEO.
The investment starts with the renewal of five exhibition halls (halls A, B, D, F, and G); two new pavilions (in an area of 7500 m2 and 9500 m2) and a new reception building will be built. One of the most important elements of the project will be the construction of the congress centre with a capacity of 2000 people, a plenary hall, and 24 smaller section rooms.
The building will be equipped with the most modern ‘Gala seating system’ involving retractable seats, by which the scene can be easily changed in a short amount of time. The infrastructure of public utilities will be renovated as well – each pavilion will have an independent heating-cooling system. The number of parking spaces will be expanded, and the building will receive a new info-communication system, which facilitates information provision for visitors and increases the number of billboards.
The development was ordered and is coordinated by the owner of Expo Park Ltd. The Expo Park Ltd. is a 100% state-owned company, whose ownership rights are exercised by MNV Ltd.
Hungexpo will operate smoothly during the construction work as well, and all events will be held at the scheduled time.
The first major international event in the modernised Hungexpo Budapest Congress and Exhibition Centre is planned for September 2020 –Â within the framework of Eucharistic World Congress – where 15,000 participants are expected. According to recent plans, in 2021, the international exhibition of airport terminals will take place in the area, followed by the World Hunting Expo.
