Who are Paddy and the Rats?
Paddy and the Rats is a Hungarian folk-punk band formed in 2008. Their music blends elements of Irish folk music with the energy of punk rock, creating a unique style that fans worldwide love. The band is made up of Paddy O’Reilly, Bernie Bellamy, Seamus Connelly, Vince Murphy, Joey MacOnkay, and Tom O’Connell, all of whom have incredible talent and stage presence. Although Hungarian, they use Irish stage names and are initially from Miskolc.
The band’s music combines Irish and Celtic folk music motifs with punk rock, although some Russian, gypsy, and polka elements also appear.
In 2010, they released their first album, Rats on Board, which was a huge success abroad. In 2010, they were the most downloaded Hungarian band on iTunes.
