Orbán’s Fidesz: no cooperation with former Fidesz member’s Tisza party in Budapest
The Budapest group of ruling Fidesz “will not cooperate with those supporting Ferenc Gyurcsány’s candidate”, Alexandra Szentkirályi, the leader of the party’s Budapest chapter, said on Facebook late on Wednesday.
Szentkirályi added that Péter Magyar, chairman of the opposition Respect and Freedom (Tisza) party, had proposed negotiations earlier in the day.
Leftist Democratic Coalition leader Gyurcsány and Gergely Karácsony, Budapest’s incumbent mayor, “drove the nation’s capital into bankruptcy and don’t deserve another chance”, Szentkirályi said.
Szentkirályi was Fidesz’s candidate for Budapest mayor but withdrew from the race before the recent municipal elections in favour of Dávid Vitézy, who was then defeated by Karácsony.
