What are those figures appearing on Hungarian Google’s home page yesterday?
Magda Szabó, who had exerted an enormous effect on Hungarian culture and people with her books and the movies based on them, was born on this day one hundred years ago. Google search engine changed its logo in her honour, and naturally, there is a reason for the drawing to look as it does, hvg.hu reports said.
It has been quite a long time since the last Hungary-related special graphic appeared on Google’s Home Page. Yesterday they were compensating for this deficiency remembering a truly great writer:
they played homage to Magda Szabó, born on the 5th of October, 1917.
The drawing can only be seen on the Hungarian home page.
The graphic made for the 100th anniversary of the writer’s birthday refers to one of her most famous novels, The Door. (A film adaptation of which was made in 2012.) On the left, we can see one of the main characters of the novel, writer Magda Szabados; on the right, her neighbour, Emerenc Szeredás. Those who have read the book or have seen the movie know that the door separating the characters and cutting the drawing into two parts is keeping the secret of the nine cats – since Emerenc was only allowed to have two of them. A dog also appears on the picture: Viola, who, in the story, was found by Magda and her husband on the street when he was a puppy, and when they took it home, Emerenc took him over. Viola became the only outsider for whom Emerenc opened her door.
