Finally: the HUF 30,000 commemorative coin with Sándor Petőfi on it is here!
New commemorative coins featuring Sándor Petőfi and the National Song were issued today, on 11 April.
Today, the Hungarian National Bank (Magyar Nemzeti Bank, MNB) issued one of this year’s most eagerly awaited commemorative coins. They commemorate Sándor Petőfi, who was born 200 years ago, and the 1848-1849 Revolution and War of Independence, which broke out 175 years ago. The 11 April launch is no coincidence, Index writes, as it is the date of the Day of Hungarian Poetry.
Collectors and investment buyers can spend HUF 30,000 on the silver coin and HUF 7,500 on the non-ferrous metal version, Bank360.hu reports.
The coin is available in two versions for collectors and investment buyers:
- The silver mirror-finish version will be available at a face value of HUF 30,000, of which 6,000 will be minted.
- The non-ferrous version with a silk luster will cost HUF 7,500 and will be produced in 8,000 pieces.
According to Bank360.hu, the diameter of both coins is 52.5 millimetres. One side of the coin features the poet’s portrait, while the other bears the first lines of the National Song.
