Skate in the sky: Budapest’s first double-decker ice rink opened! – photos

Budapest ice skating enthusiasts have a brand-new reason to hit the ice this winter, as the city welcomes its first-ever double-decker ice rink. The Csepeli Ice Park, now in its 2025/26 season, promises one of the most unique winter experiences in Hungary.
First double-decker ice rink
Following extensive preparations, the 60-metre-long ice corridor has been expanded, allowing skaters to now access a terrace over two metres high, built atop the stadium-style spectator area, 24.hu reports. From there, they can glide down a gentle 3.5-degree slope that leads back to the beautifully illuminated lower rinks, creating a dynamic and visually stunning skating experience, Csepeli Hírmondó wrote on its Facebook page.

The park’s layout has been redesigned to include new elevations, slopes, and ice pathways, while modern lighting technology enhances the evening atmosphere. Visitors can also enjoy fresh photo points and professional visual elements, ensuring that the experience is memorable both on and off the ice.
Opening ceremony at the ice rink
The opening ceremony featured a spectacular performance by Team Passion, Hungary’s national adult synchronised skating team, who wowed the audience with routines worthy of world champions. Crowds quickly took to the new terrace and parallel corridors, making full use of the new design.
Csepeli residents benefit from a 40% discount on tickets with proof of local address, and primary school students can enjoy free skating lessons on weekday mornings. The park will remain open until 28 February 2026, weather permitting, offering families and winter sports lovers alike a perfect venue for recreation and entertainment.
