Budapest Airport taxiway undergoes major renewal over the coming months, paving the way for air traffic increase

KÉSZ Építő és Szerelő, a member of construction group KÉSZ Holding, has started the renovation of a taxiway at Budapest Airport, the company told MTI on Friday.
KÉSZ Group won a tender to repave the taxiway with a bid of HUF 2.3bn (EUR 5.77 million). Budapest Airport is majority-owned by the state. They will not carry out the entire project alone; they will engage subcontractors for waste management, demolition and earthworks, stormwater drainage construction, asphalt paving, and electrical work, with a total budget of EUR 3.1 million.
New pavement, stormwater drainage, and lighting
The taxiway marked G, currently undergoing renovation, serves air traffic around Terminal 1. This essential upgrade is driven by the fact that both the existing surfaces and the utility systems beneath have reached the end of their design life, according to Magyar Építők.
Over the coming months, six new outdoor lighting poles will be installed along the renewed taxiway. Additionally, a 900-meter-long stormwater channel backbone will be constructed, a taxiway junction will be renewed, and the lighting infrastructure and shafts currently in place will be relocated beneath the pavement.
