Game of Thrones star returns to Hungary — dines at Michelin-recognized gem

Hollywood is back in Hungary! Kit Harington, the beloved star of HBO’s Game of Thrones, recently enjoyed a lively evening by the lake near the historic Fort of Tata, dining at one of Hungary’s most exclusive restaurants celebrated by the Michelin Guide.

Best known for his iconic role as Jon Snow—the enigmatic and brave “adopted bastard son” of Ned Stark—in the smash-hit series that concluded in 2019, Harington’s popularity remains strong both in Hungary and worldwide. Beyond Game of Thrones, the 38-year-old British actor has starred in films like Pompeii (2014), Testament of Youth (2014), The Beast Within (2024), and took on the role of Dane Whitman in Marvel’s Eternals (2021).
This marks Harington’s second recent visit to Hungary. In September, he was spotted in Budapest, where he happily posed for selfies with the staff of a popular sandwich bar in Saint Stephen’s Park, 13th district. The café’s employees immediately recognized him, sharing the memorable moments on social media, though they kept quiet about the purpose of his visit.

Now, photos shared by Platán Bisztró—a Michelin Guide-recognized restaurant perched on the shores of Öreg-tó near Tata Castle—show that not only winter but Jon Snow himself has returned to Hungary. According to reports from Blikk, the Hollywood star savored a delicious dinner and warmly posed for photos with the excited restaurant staff. Details about his menu choice or the length of his stay remain a mystery.

Speculation from index.hu suggests Harington hasn’t returned to Britain since September, as he’s busy filming the new BBC One series, A Tale of Two Cities, right here in Hungary.

Adding a personal touch, Harington married his Game of Thrones co-star Rose Leslie—who famously played the fierce warrior Ygritte—in 2018, and the couple recently welcomed their child, making their story as captivating off-screen as on. However, Harington’s family has not yet been spotted in Hungary.
