Good news for passengers! Budapest Airport to be renovated
After five years, parking is back in the main car park of Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport for the peak summer season. This will make life much easier for travellers. The operator will also provide electric car chargers in the new parking area.
Closed car park
The central car park of Budapest Airport was closed on 1 October 2018 due to the construction of a new car park. The construction permit for the planned multi-storey facility was withdrawn by the Budapest City Government Office, even though construction work had already started.
The company has therefore decided to rebuild the former terminal park and add new features.

Ambitious plans
According to hvg.hu, the renewed 786-space parking lot is expected to be completed and handed over in June, before the summer rush season. This new car park will also include electric car charging points.
Eight dedicated parking spaces will be provided for the tour operator’s coaches. After parking, passengers arriving at the airport will have a few-minute walk to Terminals 2A and 2B via a covered walkway.
It is planned that the new car park will be in use until the construction of the so-called multimodal hub (linked to the third terminal) starts, which is currently in the planning phase. Passengers will be allowed to arrive not only by car or taxi but also by bus or train. But it is not known when the long-awaited airport railway line will be completed.
The first main parts of the third terminal are expected to be handed over in 2030. They also want to build the multi-storey car park, which was planned at the time, on a new site.
In 2022, the Budapest airport handled 12.2 million passengers, and in the long term they want to increase its capacity to 25 million passengers per year, telex.hu reports.
