Government allocates more funding to expand foster care

Funding to expand Hungary’s foster care network will rise by 850 million forints (EUR 2.6m) next year, Human Resources Ministry state secretary for social inclusion Attila Fülöp said in Szanazug, a resort in southeast Hungary.

Strengthening the foster care network, which provides the affection of family life to those children for whom circumstances did not, is of key importance to the government, Fülöp said on the opening of the 22nd Ágota Camp, a summer camp for wards of the state and children at risk.

In the autumn, the government plans to launch a campaign that raises the profile of foster parents and encourages more Hungarians to heed the calling of becoming foster parents, he added.

There are about 21,000 children and 2,500 young adults in foster care in Hungary today.
