Government mulls folding tax office into ministry

Budapest, August 28 (MTI) – The government is reportedly mulling the option of integrating the tax and customs authority (NAV) into a ministry, the daily Napi Gazdasag said on Friday.

According to this scenario, the authority would then operate as a state secretariat, the paper said.

Several government members say a change in ethos is needed at NAV and it would be easier to make the change under ministerial authority, it added.

Government office chief Janos Lazar told a press briefing on Thursday that no decision on a restructuring of NAV had been taken.
