Gripen fighter makes precautionary landing at Debrecen airport
Budapest (MTI) – A pilot of a Hungarian Air Force Gripen fighter carried out a precautionary landing at the Debrecen airport in eastern Hungary on Tuesday morning, the defence ministry told MTI, confirming earlier press reports.
The ministry said that a pair of JAS-39 Gripen jets were in the middle of a training exercise when a warning light in one of the cockpits signalled an abnormality.
The incident did not turn into an emergency situation, but the pilot landed the jet at the nearest airport as a precaution, the ministry said. The plane is currently undergoing an inspection at the airport in Debrecen.
The landing did not affect civil air traffic to and from the airport, the manager of the Debrecen airport told MTI.
