Budapest agglomeration transport services to run more frequently during Sziget Festival, including overnight

During the Sziget Festival, the H5 Szentendre commuter rail line will operate more frequently and even run overnight between Batthyány Square and Aquincum, the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) announced Thursday via the Hungarian news agency MTI.
In its statement, the agency emphasised that Óbuda Island is closed to vehicular traffic through Sunday, 17 August. Bus line 226 will follow a modified route between Nyugati Railway Station and Aquincum, no longer serving Óbuda Island.
Preparations for Sziget Festival will start early, with Ángel Sanz Briz Street closing at 8 p.m. Saturday between Mozaik Street and Schőn Győző Street (Auchan entrance).

Public transport is the best way to reach Sziget Festival
From 4 to 11 August, the lower embankment on the Buda side will also be closed between Mozaik Street and Margaret Bridge. Mozaik Street itself will be closed daily from approximately 1 p.m. to 3 a.m., and until 3 p.m. on the event’s final day, 12 August.
Police will monitor vehicle access on the lower Buda embankment between Margaret Bridge and the intersection of Ángel Sanz Briz Street and Schőn Győző Street during this period.
Due to the partial closure of the lower Buda embankment, heavy traffic congestion is expected during peak afternoon hours northbound on the embankment near the Margaret Bridge ramp, as well as on Pacsirtamező Street.
According to the statement, the quickest way to reach Sziget Festival via public transport is the H5 commuter rail, getting off at the Filatorigát stop. Local night buses in the area will offer increased capacity during the festival, operating with articulated buses. For those using MOL Bubi shared bikes, it’s recommended to end trips at either the Kórház utca–Polgár utca or Szentlélek tér docking stations.
An English-speaking BKK information stand will be available on the Sziget Festival grounds, where from 5 to 11 August between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., and on 12 August from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., visitors can purchase paper tickets, passes, and the Budapest Card. Vouchers for Budapest Cards purchased online can also be redeemed there.
In addition to paper tickets, BKK encourages the use of digital options: the BudapestGO app allows festivalgoers to plan trips and purchase tickets conveniently. All features of the app are also available in English, the statement added.
