Hollywood star Tom Hanks, wife diagnosed with COVID-19 in Australia

Hollywood star Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Australia, the actor announced on Thursday.

Hanks was in the Australian state of Queensland’s Gold Coast to work with Aussie director, Baz Luhrmann on a new biopic about Elvis Presley, in which Hanks plays the late singer’s manager.

In a statement posted to social media, Hanks explained that both he and Wilson had presented with relatively mild symptoms and would follow the advice of health experts over coming days.

“We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” Hanks explained.

“The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires.”

The 63-year-old arrived in Australia late last month to take part in Luhrmann’s movie, arriving at Gold Coast airport from the United States, the Daily Mail reported.
