An honest video about the difficulties of the Hungarian language
Lobu.hu found a very funny video, a real curiosity about the difficulties of the Hungarian language. It is a fact that our language is one of the most complicated ones in the world and foreigners usually struggle with learning it. However, don’t be discouraged, you’re not alone; watch this video instead, it might brighten your day! 🙂
Our foods, habits can be strange for some people. Not to mention our language, which tops it all off. Many people experience how it is one of the world’s hardest languages to learn. And, let’s face it, this is completely true. We have so many types of conjugations, suffixes, synonyms that not many languages have.
The Hungarian language is so colourful that we can hardly find a Hungarian word to describe it. The following video stars foreigners who originally came to Hungary to study. They were given some words to pronounce and to read out loud. Let’s see how they did.
They start with a little introduction, to warm up before facing some lovely Hungarian words and talk about the first words and expressions they learned in Hungarian. Then come the words they have to pronounce and these include felelősségvállalás (taking responsibility), körömpörkölt (a traditional Hungarian dish), mennyezet (ceiling), poggyász (luggage), önéletrajz (CV), gyöngytyúk (guinea-fowl).
They are also asked about their opinion on the Hungarian language. One of the women found it quite archaic when she first heard it on the metro, the young man simply describes it as complicated, while the other woman thinks that it’s similar to Japanese. What do you think about our language? 🙂
