House speaker holds talks with Moroccan counterpart in Budapest

In a meeting with his Moroccan counterpart on Wednesday, House Speaker László Kövér said Hungary considers the north African country a key strategic partner in the region, parliament’s press office said. 

Morocco’s stable political and security situation, its tourism and cultural heritage are key elements of its foreign policy, Kövér told Habib El Malki.

Kövér welcomed and expressed his support for Morocco’s anti-terror efforts in the region.

Concerning economic ties, the house speaker said Hungary would consider Morocco a gateway to sub-Saharan Africa and asked for Morocco to view Hungary as an entry point to the central and eastern European region.

Kövér expressed Hungary’s desire to further increase the effectiveness of the two countries’ parliamentary ties by boosting cooperation among their parliamentary committees and friendship groups.

El Malki said his country respected Hungary’s stance on the issue of illegal migration and its aim to uphold security,

adding that Morocco, too placed great importance on the fight against terrorism.

As we wrote on August, Wizz Air launches a direct flight between Budapest and Morocco on the 31st of October. The flights will be available two times a week.
