Halms Hungary, a unit of China’s Zhejiang Huashuo Technology, is investing HUF 80bn (EUR 200m) in an automotive parts manufacturing plant in Miskolc (NE Hungary), Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on Monday.
Szijjártó stated that the investment, which will be implemented in three phases, is expected to create over 1,000 jobs.
The minister noted that Halms is also constructing an EV parts plant in Debrecen and stated that the new investment will significantly enhance Hungary’s economic performance and technological level.
Szijjártó said that in the past 15 years automotive investments have driven the Hungarian economy, and today the sector employs 160,000 people and its annual production value exceeds HUF 13,000bn.
“Thanks to the large automotive investments currently underway, Hungary will soon immediately reach the knockout stage of the Champions League of the world’s automotive industry, because we will produce one million cars, one million engines in a given year, and our electric battery production capacity will also be second in the world,” he said.
