“Hungarian blood will flow” – diplomatic representations threatened in Ukraine

Several Hungarian diplomatic representations, including the embassy in Kyiv, received a letter from Ukrainian nationalists saying that if Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó crosses the border, “they will act.”

According to 444.hu, Péter Szijjártó is visiting Ukraine today, and that is why some Ukrainian nationalists felt that they had to send such a letter to the Hungarian diplomatic representations.

The signature of the letter reads “Ukrainian patriots”.

Not only the embassy in Kyiv but also the consulate general in Ungvár (Uzhhorod), the consulate in Beregszász (Berehove), the Egan Ede Centre for Economic Development in Kárpátalja, and the Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education received one.

The writings say that the Ukrainian patriots are fed up with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, and that is why they will act if he crosses the border. They state that they became tired of watching how

Hungary would like to take away the territory of Ukraine.

That is why they will take radical actions. “If your minister comes to Ukraine, prepare for a huge bloodshed as Hungarian blood will flow,” they conclude.

The Hungarian embassy said it had filed a police report over the threats.

As we reported before, over a hundred Ukrainian political scientists and analysts worked to create a list of countries that have been either the friendliest or most hostile to Ukraine last year.

Over half of the experts claimed Hungary to be the second-most hostile.

Hvylya.net reported the outcomes of the list, and news soon spread across Hungarian media sites, too. The Foreign Policy Council’s list is called “Ukrainian Prism”, and analysts made an almost uniform decision about the country’s no. 1 enemy. There were more disputes regarding who the best friends of the country are. The majority of experts (92%) named Russia as the no. 1 enemy of Ukraine; Hungary came in second (54%).

Interestingly, Ukrainians’ perception of Russia shows some improvement. In 2019, 99% of the listmakers named Russia as the no. 1 enemy of Ukraine.

According to the list, the most hostile countries were:

Russia (92%),
Hungary (54%),
Belarus (45%),
Armenia
(6%),
Serbia (5%).

Meanwhile, the friendliest states were

Lithuania (66%),
Canada (43%),
the USA (41%),
Great Britain (32%),
Poland (30%).
