Hungarian cities grant EUR 370,000 to ethnic kin in Transcarpathia
Budapest (MTI) – Hungary’s major cities have collected 115 million forints (EUR 370,000) in aid for the ethnic Hungarian community of Ukraine’s Transcarpathia (Kárpátalja).
The grant aims to help the at least 170,000 Hungarian residents of the region stay and prosper in their homeland, House Speaker László Kövér said.
“Although the migrant crisis has diverted global attention from the plight of those in need in Ukraine, we should not forget about the Hungarian community of Transcarpathia,” he said.
The grant will be used by the International Children’s Safety Service and the Foundation for Religious Life in Transcarpathia for improving the living conditions of children and financing medical treatments in Hungary.
