Hungarian economic development minister signs MoU with Huawei

Economic Development Minister Márton Nagy and Gao Weijie, CEO of Huawei Technologies Hungary and the Western Balkans, on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding to further deepen the strategic cooperation started by Hungary’s government and Huawei in 2013, the ministry said.

Nagy is in Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s delegation on a visit to China for the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

The sides agreed that the digital transformation of the economy is an area of strategic importance that holds significant opportunities for Hungary. In order to exploit these, Huawei will establish forward-looking relations with actors of Hungary’s technological ecosystem, and Neumann Nonprofit and professional cooperation forums such as the 5G Coalition and the Artificial Intelligence Coalition will consider Huawei a partner in promoting the digital transformation.

The document states that Hungary is committed to the creation of energy sovereignty, the green transition and the exploitation of renewable energy. Hungary counts on the cooperation of Huawei, with special regard to the application of the related digital technologies and intelligent energy systems, which can be used to strengthen more efficient, more reliable and sustainable energy production and consumption, it added.

Under the MoU, Huawei will participate in the development of electric vehicle charging systems and infrastructure in Hungary in order to provide a high-quality, safe and reliable network in the country.

The minister said Hungary aims to become one of the ten best-performing European Union member states in terms of digital economic and social development by 2030 and Huawei can play an important part in this.
