Hungarian FM has talks with head of Ukrainian President’s Office

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó spoke with Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, by phone, and said Hungary had a vested interest in maintaining good relations with all its neighbours.

“Continuous, high-level talks are important because they give us hope to improving our ties, and we have an interest in maintaining the best possible relations with all of our neighbours. We will, of course, not change our pro-peace stance, but I am looking forward to our personal meeting in January, as an opportunity to discuss the most pressing bilateral issues,” he said on Facebook after the talks.

  1. “We will of course not change our pro-peace stance.” That is a diplomatic way of saying that the Hungarian government is going to continue to screw Ukraine by doing every thing it can to prevent it from having the means to defend itself or fund itself. I can’t imagine what Hungarians would say if it was Hungary being invaded and a neighbouring EU country screwed Hungary the way it screws Ukraine. It’s disgusting.

  2. Hungary has been invaded. It was invaded by the Ottoman Empire, Habsburgs, Germans and Russians. There were always enough patriots in the country to fight for sovereignty. In 1956, the youth got together to ousts the tyrannical Russians and Hungarian communists collaborating with Russians. The Hungarian youth realized that it was their responsibility to rid the country of occupiers and did not go begging all around the world for weapons and other help. The country was united, the Hungarians farmers ensured that there was enough food and often distributed food free of charge (according to stories told by expats.) This movement started a process which eventually rid the country of foreign control, (with a little help of President Reagan’s policies).

So Anonymous, what is the result of the Russian/Ukrainian war so far? Well, there is a ruined infrastructure, millions fled the country and thousands of deaths in Ukraine. Hungary’s position on peace makes sense.
