Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó harshly condemned on Friday the hanging of a puppet depicting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan by its feet by Kurdish protesters in Stockholm the previous day, the ministry said.
At a press conference with Turkish Education Minister Mahmut Ozert, Szijjártó said the actions had been “shameful and distasteful”, prompting the most resolute objection. Making jokes about hanging anyone is shocking in and of itself and the action was seriously disrespectful of not only the president but all the people of Turkey, he said.
“I think it is a fair expectation that such actions should not be allowed in the European Union which prides itself on its moral standards,” he said.
Hungary expects the local authorities to find the perpetrators, he said, adding that “we are certainly expressing solidarity and sympathy with the people of Turkey and President Erdogan”.

Of course, this had to happen in Sweden. Hope turkey will vote against Sweden joining NATO. Sweden is one of the troublemaking states, they want to punish all EU nations for not putting the lives of their citizens at risk by unreasonable immigration policy.
Yes, yes, by all means, hang those dastardly perpertrators instead! Do away with freedom of expression, freedom of speech, freedom of thought, and let Turkiye go about committing genocide against the Kurds as it did against the c.1.5 million Armenians in the 1890s and 1909.
Hm, I wonder who’s made more trouble, who has stirred the pot more for the EU, Sweden, or Orbán and his Fidesz henchmen.
While on the subject of “shameful and disrespectful” acts, I don’t remember the FM condemning the acts of January 6th 2021 on the US Capitol.
There weren’t too many Hungarians who thought that Sweden was a trouble making State after it came to light that one of it’s citizen’s (Raoul Wallenberg) saved thousands of our own people from the Nazis and our own fascists. I would say that we owe the Swedes, we owe them a lot!
@Give it a break already says,
I think many Hungarians and people from non-Western countries, in general, find the hypocrisy of Sweden to be tiring. For much of their moral grandstanding, the state seems to have trouble with its people respecting foreign leaders. Worse is that Swedes love to preach about protecting the environment while Ikea and Swedish companies purchase illegal lumber from Romania.
@Moral standards, eh
The ironic part is the US loves to preach about democracy and human rights. Yet, there was an insurrection on their front door steps. How about the US stops creating wars and preaching about human rights when the country itself is one of the worst countries for human rights infringements (ex: the US has one of the highest mass incarcerations per country).
Before anyone claims I’m a Russian bot, I obviously disagree with the illegal invasion of Ukraine. I personally believe past and current Presidents of Russia and the US should be tried for war crimes.
