Hungarian government: West leaving Ukraine in lurch
Budapest (MTI) – Western Europe, which is mostly focusing on the migrant crisis today, has left Ukraine in the lurch, Miklós Soltész, Hungary’s state secretary in charge of church, minority and civil society relations, said on Tuesday.
The western European nations have promised the Ukrainian people everything against Russia but Ukraine has lost a part of its territory and gone into economic and political bankruptcy, the state secretary told public television M1.
Many people are living from hand to mouth and dependent on soup kitchens in several regions, he said.
Soltész said that the Hungarian government was assisting not only Ukraine’s ethnic Hungarians but other Ukrainian citizens, too. He noted that an aid consignment of 8-10 million forints (EUR 26,000-32,000) worth of food and health equipment had been sent to Transcarpathia recently.
