Hungarian military transport jet headed to Denmark

They’re heading straight into a simulated catastrophe on Jutland, Denmark’s windswept southern peninsula. According to the Disaster Management Authority, members of Hungary’s elite HUNOR rescue unit touched down in Billund yesterday for a three-day EU-MODEX exercise. The squad boasts professional firefighters, eight logistics experts, four K9 dog handlers, a six-strong medical team from the National Ambulance Service, a structural engineer, and four sniffer dogs. Leading the charge is Captain Zsolt Kopasz, a battle-hardened firefighter.

They hauled 13 tonnes of gear to Billund before pushing on to Tinglev, near the German border, for a gruelling 48-hour showdown with disaster.

Drill for apocalyptic scenario

Picture this: a monstrous 7.2-magnitude earthquake has ravaged Jutland, shredding critical infrastructure and leaving buildings in ruins. “Four towns bore the brunt – Tønder, Tinglev, Kliplev, and Aabenraa, worst of all,” the authority details in its nightmare scenario. Airports are grounded, key roads blocked, and Aabenraa’s vital port battered into paralysis, halting all sea traffic.

With thousands injured, medics overwhelmed, and 300,000 souls exposed to biting cold – all while aftershocks loom – reinforcements are flooding in. Hungary’s contingent joins crack teams from France, Poland, Lithuania, Spain, and Croatia to save the day in this frozen hell.

The Hungarians hit the ground running yesterday morning. In an era of escalating natural fury, this drill is a stark reminder: Europe’s defenders are gearing up.
