Hungarian Minister will be the only EU participant at an energy conference in Moscow

Minister Péter Szijjártó will take part in a panel discussion in Moscow on Thursday titled “Global Energy Trends: today and tomorrow”, 444.hu has noted.

According to the paper, the programme says the foreign minister will be joined by the Russian deputy prime minister and the heads of Russian companies Gazprom Neft, Novatek and VEB.RF. The article notes that they are all on various Western sanctions lists.

What will be discussed in the discussion, in which Szijjártó will also be a participant, can also be deduced from the programme. It states,

some countries and coalitions are exacerbating the geopolitical situation by linking access to energy with international political relations. In 2022, this pressure will intensify (…)

According to 444, questions such as whether the current “geopolitical turbulence” has led to a slowdown in energy supplies and what Russian companies can do to assert their interests will be among the questions that will be answered.

Szijjártó will be the only EU participant in the full conference programme. Most of the speakers will be Russian politicians and business people, with a Turkish minister and guests from Africa and Asia.

The Hungarian foreign minister was at the event last year.
