In Transcarpathia, classes may be held in Hungarian at state educational institutions, but Hungarian may not be spoken during breaks or in the schoolyard, the minister of culture and innovation told public television on Monday.

Hungarian students banned from speaking Hungarian

Balázs Hankó talked about his experiences in Ukraine after visiting the Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University in Berehove (Beregszász), where he had spoken with Hungarian students.

He said he had told students that the Hungarian government is committed to the interests of the Hungarian nation, wants peace, and wants to protect them, which is why it “says no to the European Commission, which does not even wish to ensure the rights of indigenous minorities and is colluding with Ukraine and the Hungarian opposition” to prevent the minority rights of the Hungarian nation from being secured.

Hankó said that prior to his visit he received a “demarche” from the Ukrainian ministry of foreign affairs regarding what he was not allowed to discuss, namely, the rights of national minorities, and that he was participating in a private visit and could not make any political statements.

Government support will continue

He also said that the Hungarian government was investing in development, building dormitories, and supporting Hungarian education, and it will not allow the number of Hungarian high schools to drop from 33 to just 7.

He added that young people who should not have been conscripted in Ukraine were also taken away to serve in the military. The university’s rector “rescued” them, he said. “Surreal conditions prevail there, but we stand up for the Hungarian nation, for the young people,” he added.

Concerning minority rights, Hankó told public radio that the Hungarian government was asking for nothing more than what it provides to Ukrainians in Hungary.

  1. The Human rights abuses of the Western Elite-installed puppet Ukrainian Government are, in spite of only a 10 year history, long, extensive, and deeply disturbing to anyone who has respect for humans and the diversity of Human Culture.
