Attention! Students obligated to take the vaccine at this Hungarian university

After healthcare professionals, students are obligated to take the Covid-19 vaccine in order to be protected from the virus.

In July this year, napi.hu reported that every healthcare employee will be obligated to get the Covid-19 vaccine by 1 September. Most healthcare professionals had got the vaccine, but some of them were still not protected against the coronavirus, which resulted in the Hungarian government’s decision to make the jab mandatory for all healthcare workers – otherwise, they could be fired.

Now, it turns out that many students at the University of Debrecen are also obligated to take the vaccine. Everyone who studies general medicine, dental medicine, pharmacy, public health, or anybody who participates in preparatory courses has to take at least one of the two vaccines by 6 September, writes Telex. The same requirement applies to Hungarian and foreign students alike, even if they only have to enter a healthcare or social institution.

The university also mentioned that taking the vaccine is primarily required of those studying medicine and health studies. If someone has a medical certificate that taking the vaccine is not advised due to reasons concerning the student’s health, that student may be exempt from the rule.

Telex asked the university about the new rule, to which they replied by adding that “according to the university’s standpoint, vaccination is the most effective means to prevent the spreading of the virus and severe illnesses. The university asks its unvaccinated students to take the vaccine, and online registration and appointment booking are always open for them as well.”
