A Hungarian woman has reported being sexually assaulted and secretly filmed by a man she met online in South Korea, prompting a police investigation in Incheon.

According to The Korea Herald, South Korean police have launched an investigation after a Hungarian tourist alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a man in his 20s in Incheon. The case came to light after the woman contacted emergency services, triggering an immediate police response.

According to authorities, the incident took place on Monday at a residential-style accommodation in the city.

Suspect detained, then released

Police officers apprehended the suspect at the scene shortly after the report was made. During the operation, they reportedly secured evidence suggesting that the incident had been filmed without the woman’s consent.

Despite the findings, the man denied the allegations of sexual assault during questioning. Officials confirmed that he was released following initial interrogation but will be summoned again as the investigation continues.

Victim and suspect met online

Investigators said the woman and the suspect had met via an online chat application prior to arranging their meeting in person. The woman claims that the man assaulted her and recorded the act without her permission.

Authorities emphasised that the accounts of the two parties differ, making further inquiry necessary to establish the full circumstances of the case.

Ongoing investigation

Police stated that a more detailed investigation is underway, including a re-examination of the suspect and the evidence collected. Officials indicated that clarifying the discrepancies between the statements will be key to determining potential charges.

Hungarian authorities, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hungarian embassy in South Korea, have been contacted regarding the case by Telex. No official response has been issued so far.
