Hungarian wines are well-known, internationally as well, and the US President seems to agree. It turns out that a Tokaji wine is included in the most expensive cocktail sold at the Trump International Hotel in Washington D. C. According to Business Insider, the hotel has an entire list of wines that are served in a crystal spoon, among which the Hungarian wine is featured.
The famous drink that is the most expensive in all of D. C. costs 169 USD, which means 44 thousand forints (144.5 EUR) for one drink. Also, you do not even get good hard liquor in exchange, as the drink has a somewhat surprising ingredient.
It does not have a hard liquor base but the rather sweet famous Tokaji wine that is complemented with citrus fruits and berries, following an American recipe from the 19th century.
The recipe is originally for a sherry cobbler.
The Hungarian wine included is the Royal Tokaji ‘Essencia’ that is said to be the ‘richest and rarest of all Hungarian Tokaji wines’. Its presentation thus may turn out to be appropriate.
Like many other drinks at the Benjamin Bar & Lounge, it is served in crystal spoons.
In fact, there is an entire menu containing ‘Wines by the Crystal Spoon’, and each spoonful can cost from 15 USD up to 140 USD.
Other drinks at the bar are also rather pricey, with a martini that includes potatoes, caviar, vodka, rye as well as raw oysters costing as much as 100 USD.
