Hungarians are in danger due to others’ bad decisions, says defence minister

Hungary’s defence minister said Hungary was living in an “era of dangers due to the bad decisions of others”, in a video posted on Facebook on Wednesday.

The year 2023 had brought wars, migration, the threat of terror and “explosive social tensions” to Europe, Kristóf Salay-Bobrovniczky said.

“Bad decisions such as endless weapon deliveries, encouraging and financing migration, and the tensions, security risks and terror threat brought on by immigration impact Hungary too,” he said.

While Hungary doesn’t participate in the war, it will prepare to strengthen its defence capabilities to protect its peace and security, Szalay-Bobrovniczky said. Besides building a “high-tech Armed Forces”, that includes developing the country’s military industry, he added.

“We will protect our sovereignty from those expecting us to hand over the decisions on the fate of Hungarians,” he said.

  1. Hmmmm. I wonder who’s “bad decisions” he’s talking about. “Peace and Security”, as noted by St. Paul two thousand years ago, was a well honed phrase of the Roman propaganda machine. It’s been used, reused and overused ever since, and in turn has been uttered, re-uttered and over-uttered by the Hungarian government’s propaganda machine as well.

If war comes to Hungary, we cannot stand alone. That is not my assessment, but a fact. It is also a fact that it will come without warning. Using some of Paul’s words, “as swiftly as a woman’s pangs of labor”. Our neighbors to the east can attest to that. They can also confirm that those who offer “Peace and Security” will deliver neither.

  2. There are few comments I have ever read that have been so non-specific to the point of being totally useless. Who is the threat coming from? If you are going to talk about a war which one and who is the aggressor? Who is financing and promoting migrants? Have you looked at what was coming into Finland from Russia? Refugee crises are the tools of Putin to destabilize Europe. Point the finger where it deserves to be pointed.

  3. Absolute rubbish!
Hungary is part of the strongest alliance in the world, NATO.
Consequently, they don’t have to fear anyone.
But sadly, if you look at history, Hungary always managed to pick the loosing side.
So, this sort of fearmongering is perhaps not going down well with the allies of Hungary.
