Hungary condoles over OSCE mission member death in Ukraine
Tunis, April 24 (MTI) – Hungary expects all sides involved in the conflict in Ukraine to guarantee the safety of monitors of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the foreign minister said on Monday.
Péter Szijjártó expressed condolences to the victim’s family on Hungary’s behalf over the death of an American member of the OSCE mission on Sunday.
Speaking in Tunis, where he is on an official visit, Szijjártó expressed Hungary’s solidarity with all the international organisation’s monitors and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the blast in eastern Ukraine.
Szijjártó told MTI that “the presence of the OSCE delegation and the success of their work is probably the best way to deliver a political solution to the conflict in Ukraine”.
It would be in the interest of the whole of Europe for “all parties to the conflict to observe the ceasefire agreement,” Szijjártó said, adding that this would be the swiftest route to ending the conflict, which is in Hungary’s interest, given the 150,000 Hungarians living in the western part of the country.
