Hungary marks its National Holiday with magnificent fireworks – Photos
The biggest fireworks show of all time closed the August 20 festivities this year. Compared to two years ago, eight times more missiles were fired, a total of about 40,000 in 35 minutes. In addition, there was light painting and drone show.
According to the data so far, more than 700,000 people watched the fireworks in Budapest, Zoltán Kovács, the head of the department resonsible for the safe conduct of the national holiday, said on his Facebook page.
Friday’s programs ended safely and calmly. The festive programmes (more than 400) took place across the country without any police intervention.
Since the government decided to turn the August 20 national holiday into a gigantic, three-and-a-half-day series of events, the programs will continue over the weekend with eased restrictions.
Although the celebration is not over yet, the fireworks were undoubtedly the highlight. Here is the wonderful sight in pictures:

Seeing crowds like that, thank goodness the pandemic has left Hungary ……
Once you’ve seen one big display you’ve seen them all, they are much of a muchness. Sydney Harbour, London, Budapest, the name places change but the displays are pretty formulaic.
Adults – can formulate that opinion – Anonymous – BUT – the “little ones” – the FUTURE – hopefully of Hungary – did you take time to see the expressions on there Faces ???
We did and it is Up-lifting and full of Hope.
My “blessed” life – seen London and Sydneys displays – BUT – we excelled last evening in Budapest – and to the Government and ALL associated with the Danube Firecracker Show – the artistic splendour that it displayed – the sheer Joy it gave to ALL – we say Thank-You.
” When skies are Cloudy and Grey
They’re only Gray for a Day
So wrap your troubles in Dreams
And Dream your Troubles away”.
We must REMAIN positive – in ALL the CHALLENGES – that in FACT – confront us – Hungary at this time and going forward.
I concur with Norbert. Having grown up in the US and born on a major US holiday, I always went to the celebrations, always participating. It can never get old, or boring. Each event is a unique celebration, a reminder of all we continue to enjoy. Same now as I am in Canada, soon I look forward to seeing this in person in Hungary! Never take it for granted. As we see in the world today, such things can disappear in a moment. That such has returned, and life attempts to move past the pandemic, we must remain thankful. Love seeing these celebrations as much as I did as a child. Congratulation Hungary!
