Hungarian foreign minister explained why the country needs Russian oil

Serbia’s example clearly shows the vulnerable position Brussels wants to put Hungary in: a country’s oil supply cannot be based on a single pipeline, Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, said on Facebook on Saturday.

The minister said the year had started well from the perspective of regional energy security as the US permission issued for the operation of the Serbian oil refinery contributed greatly to guaranteeing Serbia’s fuel supply, which in turn had a positive effect on the entire central European fuel market.

“During our phone conversation, I assured Serbian Energy Minister Dubravka Dedovic that Serbia can continue to count on Hungary’s support in order to guarantee a secure energy supply in the long term,” he added.

“At the same time, Serbia’s example clearly shows the vulnerable position Brussels wants to put our country in: a country’s oil supply cannot be based on a single pipeline! Therefore, today we discussed with my colleague the further steps necessary to accelerate the construction of the new Serbian-Hungarian oil pipeline,” Szijjártó said.

  1. The position of the Hungarian Government is common sense – endless common sense.

As I have repeatedly said : a new Eurasian axis is taking shape – it’s western edge being Hungary & Serbia, while it’s eastern edge will stretch through Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Iran all the way to Kazakhstan & China.

This new political-economic axis will be the most complex, yet, pivotal one to arise in the new 21st century world order.

    • Meanwhile, back in the real world, Hungary relies on EU funds, Western trade, and NATO’s security umbrella. Our Politicians are playing an intricate balancing and bargaining game, using our position in the EU and NATO to tilt eastward while extracting concessions.

Our Politicians’ approach may give Hungary short term leverage, but with growing mistrust and potential vulnerability in the medium to long term. Every time we go out to foreign clients, guess what. I always end up having to explain “Hungary” – as we are seen as insider extortionists…
