Hungary population decline still tragical
Budapest, August 26 (MTI) – Hungary’s population decline slowed in the first six months of the year compared with the same period in 2015 as both the number of births and the number of deaths decreased, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Friday.
The figures show that there were 43,594 births in January-June, a 1.8 percent drop from the same period a year earlier. The number of deaths was 62,978, down by 9.5 percent compared with 2015.
The decline in births and the even greater drop in the death rate means that the rate of natural population decline was down by 23.1 percent compared with the same period in 2015.
The number of marriages went up by an annual 19 percent to 21,921.
