Hungary ran out of Trappista cheese? Purchase quantity limit introduced
The Hungarian government introduced several food price caps to balk soaring inflation that exceeds even 90 percent in some food types. The measure caused a shortage, and several chains had to limit the amount of, for example, eggs and potatoes consumers may buy. The Trappista cheese is not among the products affected by the food price cap scheme, but it seems Hungary might be running out of it.
According to 24.hu, from yesterday on, you cannot buy more than 3 kilograms of Trappista cheese in Hungary’s Spar shops. The company told the Hungarian media outlet that the measure’s cause was there was not enough Trappista cheese available on the market.
Furthermore, the quantity limit applies only to those Trappista cheese products that the company measures and slices. Similar limits were introduced on eggs and potatoes by Lidl, CBA, Tesco, etc. after the government extended its food price cap scheme a couple of weeks earlier.
Opposition politicians regularly argue that the government should balk food price inflation by VAT cuts instead of limiting consumer prices. That is because the products affected by the food price cap either disappear or the companies raise the prices of other food types to cover the loss.
As we wrote earlier, in Hungary, the yearly price increase of the Trappista cheese was the highest (95 percent), the Hungarian Central Statistical Office said.

It is expensive, tasteless rubbish, here in Hungary. Why do people want to buy it? Ditto all Dutch cheese. The only Trappista cheese worth having is from where it originally comes from, Port-du-Salut Abbey in FRANCE. The fake one made and sold in Hungary is just a poor imitation.
