Hungary strengthens agricultural relations with Kazakhstan
Further opportunities are afoot to expand Hungary-Kazakhstan agricultural ties, particularly in the areas of seed cultivation and apple growing, István Nagy, the minister of agriculture, said in Astana on Monday.
At a meeting with the Kazakh deputy minister of agriculture, Nagy highlighted the big role agriculture plays in ties between the two countries.
Hungary is especially strong in plant genetics, and a Hungarian investor, with the support of the Hungarian government, is behind the construction of a new seed processing plant, providing a big opportunity for domestic cultivators to leapfrog into Central Asia, he said, adding that this process dovetailed with Kazakhstan’s aim of producing corn on one million hectares.
The minister also mentioned bilateral opportunities in education and science, with student and research exchanges and the sharing of experiences with Kazakhstan.
