Sándor Lezsák, Deputy Speaker of Hungarian parliament, has attended and addressed the 12th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA), the press chief of parliament said on Saturday.
Lezsák told the meeting in Ankara on Friday that “our country is the only European Union member state involved in Turkic cooperation”, Zoltán Szilágyi said in a statement. He reiterated Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s remarks made at a summit of the Organisation of Turkic States, according to which Hungary would not approve any decisions in the EU that might disadvantageously affect the interests of Turkic states, he added.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Lezsák held bilateral talks with Mustafa Sentop, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye. The sides discussed bilateral relations, the upcoming general elections in Türkiye and current issues around NATO’s expansion. Lezsák also met Sultan Raev, Secretary General of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TUKSOY), and laid wreaths at the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Hungary is the only EU state that is involved in Russian cooperation and obstructs EU decisions that disadvantageously affect Russia so why is this a surprise? Turkic states are all countries that have authoritarian governments that suppress dissent so the Orban government flocks to them.
Uzbek officials said voters have approved constitutional amendments that will allow President Shavkat Mirziyoev to stay in office until 2040. The Central Election Commission said on May 1 that the changes were approved with 90.2 percent of the vote. This must be a fantastic dream for Orban. A sham vote to give you presidency for life. That is the Turkic states for you that Orban wants to “protect” from the EU.
@Larry. Like a family, the blood ties, as shaking as they may be, shall remain strong.
Now obviously, I don’t think what Hungary did was morally right. However, with Hungary has been pivoting to the East (no, that doesn’t necessarily mean Russia) to prevent itself from counteract being strongarmed by the West. It would make sense why Hungary to veto such decisions, especially since Hungary has claims to, even if it is debatable, to be a Turkic state. The Hungarians did come from a Turkic tribe.
Now, talking about Russia. Why has the European Union been increasingly getting its oil supplies from Azerbajain if the EU is so high and mighty about protecting democracy? We can also talk about the “racist statement” that has come from the EU officials (ex: Von der Leyen saying Israel made the Middle East blossom).
So please, all these discussions about democracy are a facade to the countries’ true motives, which is a reality of geopolitics. Officials that claim they protect democracy are talking out of their own behind, especially since countries like the US love to spy on their allies and stage coups in foreign countries that go against their interests.
